send in the clowns
costume design — august 2025
when nicole curtis asked me to costume her show "send in the clowns," it felt less like a job and more like a calling. like all the odd corners of my creative life, the filmmaking, the vintage hunting, the sewing, the collecting, finally converged into one role and said: this is what we've been building toward.
the show itself is pure magic. a playful, thought-provoking dance production blending clowning, dance, and comedy to explore the frustrations and triumphs of human life. nicole built something that uses laughter as a tool for connection and healing, and i got to dress the people who brought that to life.
more than half the costumes came straight out of my own personal closet. the rest were sourced and reworked through shop mom's laundry, my vintage restoration project, where old garments get a second life. every piece was chosen with intention, built to move, to perform, to make you feel something.
five acts. a full cast of baby clowns. and one of the most joyful creative experiences of my life.
